Do Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein Conspire With & Shield Child Abusers?

Let’s Talk About the “F” Word – The Families that Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein Really Protect

When the BBC talks about “protecting families,” this piece asks which families they are really defending – the children brutalised inside malignantly toxic homes, or the parents and relatives desperate to keep that abuse buried? Drawing on testimonies from those supported by Lighthouse, it exposes how Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein have helped launder the reputations of some of the worst abusers while trying to smear the people helping survivors confront past abuses.

Key Takeaways

  • “A child raped by a family member was told by her parent she was ‘a naughty teenager’” – this is the calibre of abuse inside some of the very families Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein have sided with.
  • The BBC, through Catrin Nye, presents itself as a protector of ‘families’ while working within an institution with a long record of covering up abuse and protecting heinous child abusers.
  • The BBC denied the opportunity for Lighthouse to present all the evidence as part of a full and comprehensive right to reply to every false allegation made in A Very British Cult. This evidence included the motives of Catrin Nye’s sources; to destroy Lighthouse in order to cover up family abuse.
  • As a mouthpiece of the Establishment, the BBC has actively sought to cancel Lighthouse for its work in supporting those who have come from coercively controlling and abusive families.
  • Alexandra Stein’s “Family Survival Trust” focuses public attention on so‑called “cults” while largely ignoring the pervasive abuse that happens inside malignantly toxic family homes.
  • Lighthouse has sought to build and restore families where there is repentance and change, but has refused to force survivors back to unrepentant abusers.
  • Many of the loudest anti‑Lighthouse campaigners are parents and relatives with deep histories of grooming, sexual abuse, neglect, and psychological torture that they are desperate to keep hidden.
  • Paul S Waugh has openly repented for strong language and invited scrutiny and accountability, while Ms Nye and Ms Stein have shielded families whose abuses are vastly more serious and systemic.
  • By platforming these families as “victims” and framing Lighthouse as the danger, the BBC’s narrative pressures survivors to return to or appease the very people who traumatised them.
  • Real safeguarding would start with survivors’ testimonies, subject abusive families to rigorous scrutiny, and refuse to send survivors back into the arms of unrepentant abusers.

Catrin Nye tells the world she is protecting “families.” She frames her BBC work as standing up for vulnerable people against so‑called abusive “cults” and “coercively controlling groups.” She is backed by self‑proclaimed cult expert Alexandra Stein and her “Family Survival Trust,” an organisation that claims to champion family wellbeing.

But when you look at who Ms Nye and Ms Stein are actually platforming and colluding with against Paul S Waugh and Lighthouse Global, a very different picture emerges. The families they have chosen to believe, promote, and weaponise are in many cases the very people who groomed, neglected, raped, or otherwise horrifically abused their own children – then tried to cover it up.

This article focuses on one central question:

When Catrin Nye says she is protecting families, which families is she actually protecting – and from whom?

1. The BBC’s “Family Protector” Myth

If you know the BBC’s record when it comes to protecting children and covering up abuse, none of this should be a surprise.

The same institution that failed generations of victims and enabled serial abusers now presents itself, through journalists like Catrin Nye, as a fearless defender of the vulnerable. In practice, what we have seen around Lighthouse Global is a repeat of a familiar pattern: protect the establishment and its friends, and smear those exposing abuse.

So when Catrin Nye fronts a documentary that leans heavily on predatory trolls from Reddit and highly selective testimony, wrapped in sinister music and manipulative editing, we must ask: Who benefits if Lighthouse and its Associates are discredited?

One answer is clear: families with a great deal to hide.

This is not some form of Lighthouse narrative, this is what the data says about family abuse as one of the biggest taboos encountered through our research at Lighthouse:

  • Six in 10 children – or 400 million children – under 5 years of age regularly suffer physical punishment and/or psychological violence at the hands of parents and caregivers (Source: World Health Organisation)
  • 60-70% of boys and girls aged two to fourteen experience emotional violence from a caregiver or household member (Source: BMJ Journals)
  • The family environment is a common context in which child sexual abuse occurs, accounting for almost half of all child sexual abuse offences reported to the police in England and Wales. (Source: Centre of expertise on child sexual abuse)
  • 40% of all referrals to local services like the police and children’s social care from NSPCC Helpline were for children aged 5 and under. (Source: NSPCC)

2. The BBC’s Blackout & Cancelling of Lighthouse

The BBC denied the opportunity for Lighthouse to present all the evidence as part of a full and comprehensive right to reply to every false allegation made in A Very British Cult. This was not a balanced broadcast, it was a blackout.

For the BBC to be impartial and truly offer a full right to reply, the budget of a production increases. When a member of the public is falsely accused and they want to bring extensive evidence to the table, the costs immediately skyrocket. So either the production is not worth making or there has to be a complete blackout of one side of the story.

How did Catrin Nye and BBC try to navigate their problem of Paul S Waugh and Lighthouse having all the facts, evidence and context that would increase the production costs significantly? They offered Lighthouse an interview under very stringent, high-control conditions, where this evidence could not be presented.

It was extremely important for the BBC to say that they offered us an interview, and to say we didn’t comply. The truth isn’t that. They cancelled the interview because we wanted one where evidence and statements could be presented directly in line with false claims made. The full emails relating to the communication between Lighthouse and the BBC can be found here.

Under direction from the Establishment, the BBC is also complicit in cancelling us and blacking us out. No one in the mainstream media will talk to us because we are willing and prepared to talk about the taboo of family abuse. It’s far too common and damaging than people want to accept. We had people wanting to do documentaries about us who then pulled out.

3. Alexandra Stein & the Silence Around Family Abuse

Alexandra Stein presents herself as a “cult expert” and runs something called the “Family Survival Trust.” The name sounds wholesome and reassuring. But then look across Ms Stein’s work and public posture and you do not find a clear, sustained emphasis on the most common, pervasive forms of abuse: the abuses that happen inside the family home.

Most sexual abuse, most rape, most coercive control, and most psychological damage to children happen within families or at the hands of those closest to them. Yet Ms Stein’s focus is overwhelmingly on external “cults” and “high-control groups,” not on the toxic, predatory families who make up such a large proportion of victims’ real experience.

What’s more damning is that we invited Alexandra Stein to spend time with us at Lighthouse, cover her costs to investigate us, and to be a fly on the wall. Paul S Waugh offered for her to spend time with him and his family in his own home.

Given that Alexandra Stein heads up the Family Survival Trust, it would’ve been an incredible opportunity to spend a week with Paul and others at Lighthouse, interviewing children and seeing the value of our work firsthand. It would also have given Ms Stein the opportunity to learn about the backgrounds of those at Lighthouse.

Ms Stein would’ve seen how forcing people back into their families would be heinous, wrong and unlawful.

The invitation offered to Alexandra Stein was open to any other so-called cult expert out there. They ignored or refused point-blank because they had a paid mandate from the BBC to achieve the BBC’s aims to destroy us.

In practice, the message to Lighthouse Associates is simple and chilling: leave Lighthouse and go back to your families, no matter how abusive they have been.

That is not safeguarding. That is collusion with abusers.

4. “Protecting Families” – Or Protecting Abusers?

Lighthouse’s intention, from the beginning, has been to help build and restore families where that is possible. Lighthouse Associates have been encouraged to write to their families, to seek growth together, to read and learn together, and to work towards real reconciliation where there is repentance and change.

But there is a line that cannot be crossed: forcing people back into relationships with unrepentant abusers who have never admitted what they have done, never sought to put it right, and in many cases are still abusing others.

The testimonies below are not abstract cases. They describe Lighthouse Associates and clients whose families have been among the loudest trolls and smear campaigners against Lighthouse. These are some of the very people Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein have aligned with and platformed.

For obvious safeguarding reasons, names and identifying details are withheld. But Lighthouse holds extensive evidence for these accounts: written testimonies, journals, and audio recordings.

The tragic reality is that the examples below are a fraction of what we’ve encountered through our work and research at Lighthouse. There’s a huge amount of background that we haven’t presented, or there’s cases where we haven’t been able to speak about. For example, there are cases where we haven’t had someone’s permission or the sheer volume of cases.

We are also aware that this is being presented in the public domain and that children may be reading this. There are worse cases than the ones that we’re sharing below.

5. Harrowing Abuse From Toxic Families – The People Catrin Nye & Alexandra Stein Have Sided With

Crucially, this information was already known to Catrin Nye five months prior to the broadcast of A Very British Cult, as evidenced by contemporaneous material and firsthand accounts.

Below are key extracts from Lighthouse Associates and clients about the families that have been used as weapons against Lighthouse, and against abuse survivors’ own recovery.

WARNING: Please note that the quotes below describe real events of family abuse (physical, emotional, sexual). They present the reality of what Lighthouse Associates and clients have experienced before coming to Lighthouse for help. NB where specialised help was required, Lighthouse mentors referred abuse survivors to qualified professionals outside of Lighthouse.

The perpetrators of these abuses are those behind efforts to destroy Lighthouse through a hate and smear campaign. Since February 2021, they have orchestrated coordinated attacks on Lighthouse through:

As reflected in the prayer at the bottom, we as Christians pray for both the survivors and perpetrators of this heinous childhood abuse.

“My mother knew that I was taking and dealing drugs from my early teens. I also had a p*rn addiction from the age of 9 that she did nothing about. Now she is one of those behind this smear campaign trying to destroy my recovery and those supporting me through it! She is terrified the truth will come out!”

“When I was a teenager my mother hijacked my Facebook account and sexted my partner at the time with pictures she insisted on taking of me in my underwear. This included my mother acting as me on Facebook and encouraging my teenage partner to send her explicit pictures and videos. My partner had no idea what was really going on, thinking they were messaging me. My mother also watched the explicit videos of my partner with me and encouraged me to share with her about my sexual experiences and things she had advised me to do! I have evidence of all of this including her attempts to try and smear Lighthouse to cover this up!”

The Case of Erin

A child raped by a family member was told by her parent she was ‘a naughty teenager’. The parents of this child have been amongst the very worst trolls of Lighthouse because they have the most to hide.

“When I questioned my upbringing, challenged my parents on it and opened up to my wife about the neglect and damage that was done to me as a child, they committed me to a mental asylum where I was drugged. Since then there have been times when I have challenged my wife and she has threatened to send me back to the asylum, not because I’m sick but because she wants to try and control me knowing how traumatic that experience was for me.”

“Despite admitting to the sexual abuse of us as her sons and that we needed psychosexual therapy, our mother then compounded our abuse by claiming we were lying and spewing this all over media. She has been one of the worst predatory trolls, including her being an anonymous source in the Daily Mail, because she has the most to hide in terms of her abuse of us!”

“When I was 3 years old, my mother was confronted by a nursery school teacher because I was turning up black and blue with bruises from her vicious beatings.”

“My mother fed me from a milk bottle for the first 9 years of my life and only stopped when I insisted on it, after fearing my friends would find out.”

“‘You don’t f**king care, YOU’RE A B*TCH!’ was my father’s reaction to me breaking down in tears whilst organising files containing intimate details of his divorce from my mother. He’d asked me to do this for pocket money.”

“When I told my mother that I’d been raped as a teenager by a peer she said, ‘Well you know sometimes people can think that these things happened when they didn’t.’”

“When aged 11, one evening I heard the rattling of metal so went to see what was wrong and saw my mum standing there with a large knife in her hand saying to me, ‘I’m going to kill him’. She has been trying to kill Lighthouse too because she has so much to hide!!”

“After I’d been raped, the first thing my mother said is, ‘You shouldn’t have worn that dress.’”

“One of the biggest violations my birth mother said that crossed a line that ought to have never been said was if anyone, including my Dad, had ever sexually abused me/my sister, she didn’t want to know because SHE couldn’t cope with it!”

“One evening I suddenly saw my mum on top of my dad on the sofa punching him in the head as he, in his drunken stupor, tried to defend himself.”

“I asked my dad that if I was a drug addict, was going to die and desperately needed to go into rehab, would he want to know so he could help, he said, ‘I have finished my role as a parent and will not be responsible for anything in your life.’”

“I went to primary school not fully toilet trained and so suffered the embarrassment of wetting myself at school and on camping trips as old as 8 or 9 years old.”

“By the age of 11 I ‘hated’ speaking so much that I stopped and that lasted around two years. I only spoke when I had to, otherwise, nothing came out my mouth, just nods and shakes of my head. It was the psychological impact of what I was missing from my development as a child.”

“There would be times when my mum would go completely AWOL. When I was 11-12 years old my mum ran away from home to London for months not knowing if/when she would return.”

These are not minor parenting mistakes or isolated lapses of judgement. They are patterns of grooming, sexualisation, abandonment, psychological torture, and blatant collusion with abusers. Many of the same parents then turned on Lighthouse when their sons or daughters began confronting the past and seeking real recovery.

These are the people who have been weaponised by the BBC and its allies to portray Lighthouse – the very community helping them face these realities – as the problem.

Click here for a detailed record of these abuses which was published approximately five months prior to the broadcast of Catrin Nye’s BBC production A Very British Cult.

6. Paul S Waugh, Repentance & the Double Standard on Abuse

One of the most grotesque distortions in Catrin Nye’s and Alexandra Stein’s handling of Lighthouse is the way they inflate a handful of expletives from Paul S Waugh while completely ignoring, minimising, or even protecting the catastrophic abuses inside the families they chose to side with.

Paul has sinned in his language at times. He has used strong and, on occasion, crude expressions in frustration and when confronting evil, corruption, and betrayal.

What the likes of the Daily Mail and the BBC fail to ask is where Paul learnt to swear. He learnt to swear growing up; in his family, at school, from sports coaches, from workplaces, from bosses, from people in all parts of his life. As a child growing up, he was surrounded by people who used foul and abusive language, bar the odd school teacher.

Crucially:

  • He has directly repented to God for those expletives and those occasions.
  • He has personally apologised to those involved where he has fallen short.
  • He has invited ongoing scrutiny and accountability around his conduct, including from those he mentors and serves.

None of this excuses sin. But it shows a man willing to face his own faults, own them, seek forgiveness, and grow.

Now contrast that with what the families above have done and, in many cases, are still doing:

  • Grooming their own children into pornography, sexual exposure, and addiction.
  • Denying or minimising rape and sexual assault, even when their own child discloses it.
  • Physically beating 3-year-old children to the point that nursery teachers see them “black and blue.”
  • Weaponising mental health systems to silence those who question the family’s behaviour.
  • Publicly smearing their now‑adult children and Lighthouse to cover up their own crimes and failures.

Lighthouse, in the middle of that, has become a substitute family for many of these now‑adult children – a place where they can finally tell the truth, be believed, and begin to heal from horrors that happened in their own homes.

Yet when Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein came to tell this story, what did they do?

  • They did not forensically investigate these families, their histories, or the evidence of abuse Lighthouse holds.
  • They did not apply anything like “BBC Verify” standards to the claims of parents who had every motive to lie and deflect.
  • Instead, they colluded with those families, platformed them as “victims,” and then reframed Paul as the abuser for using strong language while confronting and exposing what those families have done.

The double standard could not be more stark:

  • On one side, a man who has made mistakes with his language, repented, apologised, and devoted his life to building and protecting people devastated by family abuse.
  • On the other, parents and relatives whose actions include sexual abuse, severe neglect, physical violence, psychological torture, as well as ongoing trolling and smear campaigns designed to bury the truth.

It is evidently provable that, while Paul has sinned and fallen short at times, nothing he has done is remotely comparable to the systemic, life‑shattering abuses carried out by the very family members Ms Nye and Ms Stein are protecting against the now‑adult children at Lighthouse.

To invert that reality, to call the shepherd the abuser and the wolves the “victims,” is not journalism. It is spiritual and moral corruption.

7. Coercing Survivors Back to Their Abusers

When Catrin Nye uses her BBC platform to portray Lighthouse as dangerous while centering the narratives of such families, the effect is not neutral. It is not a harmless “debate.” It is public pressure and extreme gaslighting.

Survivors who are already traumatised, gaslit, and financially or emotionally dependent on their abusers are pushed to choose between:

  • Staying with Lighthouse and being vilified as “brainwashed cult members,” or
  • Returning to or appeasing the very families who raped them, prostituted them online, beat them, abandoned them, or denied their abuse ever happened.

That is what it means, in practice, for a BBC journalist to “protect families” in this context. It means protecting these families, and protecting their reputations, at the expense of the children and now‑adult survivors they harmed.

This is why we say that Catrin Nye protects child‑abusing families. This is why we say that Alexandra Stein and those around her are not confronting the real epicentre of abuse – the toxic family home – but instead are helping to redirect attention onto Lighthouse and other convenient targets.

8. What Real Safeguarding Would Look Like

Real safeguarding would begin with the testimonies above.

It would mean:

  • Taking survivors’ accounts seriously rather than instantly aligning with parents who have every motive and reason to deny and discredit them.
  • Asking hard questions about the family systems, not just the groups or communities that those survivors later joined to find help or build the healthy relationships they didn’t have growing up.
  • Ensuring that any investigation into Lighthouse – or any other organisation – includes full and fair scrutiny of the families who have campaigned most aggressively against it.

Above all, it would mean refusing to force survivors back into the arms of unrepentant abusers in the name of “family,” “normality,” or media narratives.

Until the BBC, Catrin Nye, Alexandra Stein, and their allies are willing to face the realities laid out in these testimonies, their claims to be protecting families and children ring hollow.

There is good reason to say this, the BBC has a history of cover-ups, including that of child sexual abuse. There is a well-documented history for this available in the public domain. So before even looking at the evidence, BBC culture and pathology points towards the protection of child abusers.

Catrin Nye herself is no stranger to protecting child abusers. She was working in the BBC Newsnight team when Meirion Jones and Liz Mackean sought to expose Jimmy Savile’s decades of child sexual abuse. At the very least she was complicit in the cover-up and Meirion Jones himself has said, “Everyone on right side of the Savile argument has been forced out of the BBC”. Now the BBC are protecting coercively controlling and abusive families, while trying to destroy healthy ones, including Lighthouse as a healthy substitute family.

They are not protecting families from abuse.

They are protecting abusers from the truth.

9. A Prayer for the Perpetrators & Survivors of Family Abuse

Lord Heavenly Father,

We pray with heavy hearts as to how fallen and sinful we are as humanity. You created families with the intention for them to be a place where loving bonds could be formed, to be a source of joy. You created families to ensure that every child could receive the mentoring, the coaching, the counselling and the complete upbringing they require to be prepared for life physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Families were designed to provide love, care, wisdom, nurture and mutual support.

Father, we grieve at how families fall short of the perfect design with which You created them. We experience the sorrow, as do You, at how innocent children have their trust in those closest to them abused.

We pray for the healing of those who have suffered unnecessarily at the hands of abusers; whatever the form and whatever the extent they have experienced.

We pray for the repentance of those who have been abusive. We also pray for those like Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein who insist on endorsing abusers.

We recognise that You are both a loving and a just God. We trust in You and ensuring that through this tragic situation that You may be glorified in whatever way possible… whether through healing, regeneration or justice in its truest form.

In the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.

Amen

This article has hit a nerve. The fact that Nye and Stein brushed aside what has happened to those whose testimonies are above, I pray for them both and for those concerned. What I pray is that those who read this article look inside and ask themselves, is this me? Did this happen to me? Many children do not even realise how damaged they are and how they have been abused by their parents, siblings or family members; it’s all covered up as love.

Abuse comes in many forms, as I have been helped to realise, and without the correct help and support, that damage can become toxic and come out later in life.

Thank you so much for sharing this with us all. It is a hard read, but a must-read.

God bless us all x x

Thank you for producing this article, it points to even more evidence of the corrupt and unjust nature of the BBC and those who work within it, how from this case and many others, we can analyse and see what the real motive and intentions are behind what and who they report on. We are becoming increasingly less blind to this, and that is why Catrin Nye feels as she does about us at Lighthouse, and those she’s tried to abuse through this by even airing the docu-myth-ry in the first place. May we hope for blessing and healing among all those affected and for everyone who is genuinely seeking and reporting on the truth. God bless and help us all. Amen x x

There can be no justification for siding with abusers and those inflicting harm on their own families, to gain ratings and advance their own careers.
The BBC and other mainstream media do not give a fair and accurate representation of the full facts, because they want to create content that severs their own ends. TV ratings, copy and advertising sales and ultimately control of people’s opinions. All this at the expense of lives and businesses of those who try to help and heal.

Thank you for this very important article and for exposing the reality of the complicit nature of Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein with abusers. Evil often means doing bad things in the name of good, and this is behaviour that has become all too familiar at the BBC, as the many scandals of the last few years clearly show. Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein attack those who are healing and receiving the support they need, without ever having spoken to them, while producing a one sided documythary “A Very British Cult” alongside abusive family members. This clearly shows how the establishment seeks to keep people small and in their place in order to control the narrative while working through their mouthpiece BBC. The consequences of this are devastating, as the statistics on child abuse in this article clearly demonstrate. God bless our children.

Complicit! That all i can say about Catrin Nye and Alexandria Stein, Complicit!! Under the guise of in the interest of the public they work with abuses to fit their narrative. Disgusting!!

Very much seeing this a lot using the process as the punishment. Katie Hopkins is someone who recently experience this as well, having her go to the police each week for because she made a joke about herself being a spas. They know what they are doing with physiological damage wearing down people. Also having the charge they can mess with reputation, this is a game they play to build fear in people. This is way of creating control…this is the new way.

Reading through the statistics at the start was a tragic reminder of how pervasive and common child abuse is. It helps me to feel more compassion for people as I’m out in public. How many people are breaking at the seams because of the abuse they endured as a child?

Meanwhile it’s heartbreaking to read what people at Lighthouse have been through as children. When we published this abuse on our Daily Mail site back in November 2022, it silenced the anti-Lighthouse forums on Reddit. Why? Because the anonymous predatory trolls knew this abuse was real and they had been called out. Yet we let the BBC know and they’re indifferent to it.

Catrin Nye is very quick to boast about her role at the BBC and the awards for A Very British Cult. She is not so quick to even acknowledge her complicity in the attempted cover-up of Jimmy Savile’s abuse and the child abusers who she used as sources for her career advancement…

It never ceases to amaze me how Paul using a few swear words to hold someone accountable is presented as such a big deal. Meanwhile, the incestual sexual abuse of a child is pretty much ignored.

Unless you are genuinely part of the progressive conversation about how families can be better, how parents can be better, how children can get what they never did, then the cycles of trauma and abuse just loop and cycle all over again. I pray earnestly that Ms Nye and Ms Stein take a long look at themselves to be a part of the solution, rather than being complicit

Alexandra Stein has founded an organisation called the Family Survival Trust and yet there’s nothing about how to enable parents and families to ensure that they are giving children a full and complete upbringing. What a missed opportunity! And why? Because if they offered to help families come together in a meaningful way then they would likely be accused of being a cult! That’s how insane this world is…

God help Catrin Nye and Alexandra Stein, to be complicit with exceptionally cruel and abusive people who have brought great harm to children, should mean they never show their faces in public again much to say carry on as normal. You have to be a special type of unconscionable to do so, especially when you have your own children.

Thank you for the prayer for the perpetrators and the survivors of abuse also 🙏
